The stock was down 0.2% at the time of writing, while retail sentiment on Stocktwits moved higher but remained within ‘bearish’ territory over the past day.&nbsp;According to a&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://fortune.com/crypto/2025/09/16/google-ai-payments-protocol-stablecoins-coinbase-salesforece-ethereum-foundation/">report</a> by Fortune, the open-source protocol not only supports more traditional forms of payments, such as credit and debit cards, but also stablecoins —cryptocurrencies pegged to underlying assets, like the U.S. dollar.The effort reportedly involved collaboration with Coinbase (COIN), which has developed its own AI and crypto payments infrastructure, as well as input from the Ethereum Foundation. The report stated that Google also consulted with more than 60 organizations spanning finance and e-commerce, including Salesforce (CRM), American Express (AXP), and Etsy (ETSY).“The way we built it is from the ground up to factor in both heritage and existing payment rail capabilities as well as forthcoming capabilities such as stablecoins,” James Tromans, the head of Web3 at Google Cloud, told Fortune.The launch builds on a protocol Google released in April to create a common standard for AI agents to communicate. The report said the latest release extends that framework to agent-to-agent payments, aiming to ensure transactions remain secure and aligned with human intent.Coinbase and Google worked to make their systems interoperable, Erik Reppel, head of engineering at Coinbase’s developer platform, told Fortune. “We’re all working to figure out how we can make AI transmit value to each other,” he said.The push comes amid a more crypto-friendly policy environment in Washington. Crypto markets traded cautiously in early morning trade on Tuesday, with Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) drifting as the Federal Reserve was on track to begin a two-day meeting expected to shape the path for the first interest-rate cut of 2025.Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s news conference on Wednesday, following the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) 's meeting, is likely to signal how quickly the central bank could move on rate cuts. Bitcoin (BTC) has inched higher after weeks of sideways trading, but remains nearly 3% below its late-August high of more than $118,000 and 7%&nbsp;below its previous record&nbsp;of $124,000. At the time of writing,&nbsp;<a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/BTC.X">Bitcoin’s price</a> had gained 0.5% in the last 24 hours, with retail sentiment on Stocktwits trending in ‘bearish’ territory over the past day.&nbsp;Ethereum (ETH), meanwhile, has pulled back after setting a fresh record of more than $4,900 last month, with traders eyeing $5,000 if policy signals turn dovish.&nbsp;<a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/ETH.X">Ethereum’s price</a> fell 0.3% in the last 24 hours, trading at around $4,500 at the time of writing. Retail sentiment around the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization also remained in ‘bearish’ territory over the past day.&nbsp;Other major altcoins showed cautious optimism, with Solana (SOL) edging 0.1% lower and meme token Dogecoin (DOGE) edging 0.3% higher. Meanwhile, retail sentiment around Shiba Inu trended in ‘neutral’ territory, accompanied by ‘high’ levels of chatter.According to Shiba Inu developer Kaal Dhairya, Shibarium suffered a $2.4 million flash loan exploit on Sunday after an attacker briefly gained control of its validator system. Solana (SOL) outperformed Bitcoin (BTC) and other major altcoins in early morning trade on Friday after Galaxy Digital purchased more than two million tokens over the past 24 hours, following CEO Mike Novogratz’s declaration that it was ‘Solana Season.’Dogecoin (DOGE) also moved higher on speculation, despite the reported delay of the Rex Osprey Dogecoin ETF (DOJE), which was slated to launch later on Friday but has been pushed to next week, according to Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas. “Another delay. Launching next week. Mid-week. Prob[ably] Thurs[day],” he wrote in a&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/EricBalchunas/status/1966236513517338749">post</a> on X.<a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/SOL.X">Solana’s price</a> surged more than 6% in the last 24 hours, trading at around $2.40, levels not seen since January this year. Retail sentiment around Solana on Stocktwits also moved higher to ‘bullish’ from ‘neutral’ territory, and chatter jumped to ‘high’ from ‘normal’ levels over the past day.&nbsp;In an&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/cryptocurrency/bitcoin-in-consolidation-mike-novogratz-sees-solana-ethereum-taking-spotlight/chwN1oPRdvg">interview</a> with CNBC on Thursday, Novogratz described the inflows into Solana as part of a broader ‘Season of SOL,” noting the blockchain’s transaction speed and growing role in financial markets.&nbsp;Following his comments,&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://intel.arkm.com/explorer/entity/galaxy-digital">data</a> from Akham Intelligence showed Galaxy bought SOL tokens for around $480 million in the last 24 hours.Meanwhile,&nbsp;<a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/DOGE.X">Dogecoin’s price</a> climbed 3.8% in the last 24 hours, trading at around $0.2605 at the time of writing–a 2-month high for the meme token. On Stocktwits, retail sentiment remained in ‘extremely bullish’ territory amid ‘high’ levels of retail chatter over the past day.&nbsp;Ethereum (ETH) and Ripple’s native token (XRP) also outpaced Bitcoin in early morning trade.&nbsp;<a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/ETH.X">Ethereum’s price</a> rose 2.1% and XRP gained 1.3% in the last 24 hours.&nbsp;<a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/BTC.X">Bitcoin’s price</a>, meanwhile, only edged 0.9% higher, trading just under $115,000.The overall cryptocurrency market rose 1.2% over the last 24 hours, rising to a market capitalization of $4.1 trillion. Crypto futures bets saw around $357 million in liquidations over the past 24 hours, according to Coinglass&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.coinglass.com/LiquidationData">data</a>. Long liquidations totaled around $122 million, and short bets amounted to $234 million.&nbsp;Digital asset treasury (DAT) equities also showed cautious optimism, edging higher in pre-market trade.
