Ripple is the catchall name for the cryptocurrency platform, the transactional protocol for which is actually XRP, in the same fashion as Ethereum is the name for the platform that facilitates trades in Ether. Like other cryptocurrencies, Ripple is built atop the idea of a distributed ledger network which requires various parties to participate in validating transactions, rather than any singular centralized authority. That facilitates transactions all over the world, and transfer fees are far cheaper than the likes of bitcoin. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, XRP transfers are effectively immediate, requiring no typical confirmation time.  Ripple was originally founded by a single company, Ripple Labs, and continues to be backed by it, rather than the larger network of developers that continue bitcoin’s development. It also doesn’t have a fluctuating amount of its currency in existence. Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense. The Jerome Powell-led Fed cut rates by a quarter-point, aligning the expectations, but the major averages, excluding the Dow Jones Industrial Average, lost ground, potentially in a “sell-the-news” move.As the market looks past the Fed decision, the Nasdaq 100 futures rose over 0.62% as of 11 p.m. ET on Wednesday. The S&amp;P 500 and the Dow futures added 0.43% and 0.29%, respectively, and the Russell 2000 futures climbed 0.54%.The markets closed on a mixed note on Thursday as traders took stock of the Fed decision, the updated forecasts, and the dot plot, along with Powell’s comments at the post-meeting press conference. (DIS).&nbsp;The new collaboration involves the creation of a digital comics platform, a move analysts view as a long-term growth catalyst for the company. JPMorgan revised its target price for Webtoon to $22, up from its prior estimate of $14, while maintaining a ‘Neutral’ rating, according to TheFly.<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/WBTN">Webtoon Entertainment stock</a> traded 31% higher on Tuesday morning. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent reportedly said Tuesday that President Donald Trump would support higher interest rates if inflation became a problem, as markets brace for the Federal Reserve to deliver its first interest rate cut of the year.“President Trump’s very sophisticated economically, and I think he has been right at almost every turn, whether it’s his first term, his second term,” Bessent said in a CNBC interview. “If he thought inflation were the problem for the American people, sure, he’d be willing to have a rate hike.”For now, Bessent argued, the issue lies with the Fed. “The problem has been that the Fed has been behind the curve,” he said. “We’re hoping they will start catching up in a rather fulsome way.”Markets widely expect the central bank to cut rates by 25 basis points at the conclusion of its two-day Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting on Wednesday. Bessent said the key question is whether policymakers aim to move policy toward neutral or shift to a more accommodative stance.&nbsp;“I don’t think he thinks that’s neutral. Trump Open To Rate Hikes If Inflation Surges, Scott Bessent Says: Report

In an interview with CNBC, the U.S. Treasury Secretary also reiterated that President Donald Trump feels that the Federal Reserve is currently ‘behind the curve.’

U.S. stock futures edged up early Tuesday as traders held onto hopes that the resumption of rate cuts by the Federal Reserve would reinvigorate the economy. The Commerce Department’s retail sales data, due before the market opens, and its implications for the economy may play in the minds of traders as they navigate an overbought market.The Fed meeting gets underway on Tuesday, although the outcome of the meeting won’t be known until Wednesday. Senate confirmation of Trump’s nominee Stephen Miran removes one of the overhangs around the rate decision. WisdomTree Senior Economist Jeremy Siegel anticipates a 25-basis-point cut, aligning with market expectations. The economist sees “real potential” for dissent on both sides.As of 3:45 a.m. ET on Tuesday, the Nasdaq 100 futures rose 0.26% and the S&amp;P 500 futures climbed 0.10%, while the Dow futures and Russell 2000 futures were nearly unchanged.Stocks rallied sharply on Monday, thanks to hopes of the U.S. clinching a trade deal with China and some stock-specific strength in companies such as Tesla (TSLA) and Oracle (ORCL). A regional manufacturing survey that showed an unexpected contraction added to evidence of economic softness, increasing hopes for a rate cut.The S&amp;P 500 Index closed at a fresh high, topping the 6,000 mark for the first time, while the Nasdaq Composite and the Nasdaq 100 also scaled new peaks. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, however, finished shy of its record.The&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/SPY">SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF (SPY)</a>, an exchange-traded fund (ETF) that tracks the S&amp;P 500 Index, and the&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/QQQ">Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ)</a> rose 0.53% and 0.86%, respectively. The&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/DIA">SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF Trust (DIA)</a> and the&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/IWM">Shares Russell 2000 ETF (IWM)</a> added 0.16% and 0.42%, respectively.On the economic front, the retail sales report for August is expected to show a slowdown in retail sales growth to 0.3% from 0.5% in July. Excluding autos, retail sales growth is expected to be a touch soft at 0.4% relative to 0.5% in July. Siegel said a 50 basis-point cut comes into play if the retail sales significantly disappoint.&nbsp;Traders may also focus on the Federal Reserve’s industrial production report for August, the import prices report for August, the business inventories report for August, and the National Home Builders Association’s housing market index for September.Ferguson plc. (FERG) is scheduled to report its quarterly results on Tuesday.Crude oil futures slipped early Tuesday, while gold futures continued to trade with strong upward momentum.
