What Is Pi Network? Pi Network is a social cryptocurrency, developer platform, and ecosystem designed for widespread accessibility and real-world utility. It enables users to mine and transact Pi using a mobile-friendly interface while supporting applications built within its blockchain ecosystem.  Supply Model and Mining Mechanism The Maximum Supply of Pi is 100 billion tokens. The Maximum Supply is comprised of the following: 65 Billion tokens (or 65%) are allocated for all community mining rewards; 10 billion (10%) are allocated for foundation reserves; 5 billion (5%) are allocated for liquidity purposes; and 20 billion (20%) are allocated for the Core Team. The other allocations within the Effective Total Supply can then be calculated based on the same proportions as the Maximum Supply, e.g. at most 10% of the Effective Total Supply is available in the foundation reserve, 5% of the Effective Total Supply is available for liquidity purposes, and 20% of the Effective Total Supply is available for the Core Team. This remains true despite the fact that all tokens were minted at the genesis as technically required by the blockchain protocol.  Circulating Supply includes all Migrated Mining Rewards and all tokens that entered circulation from other buckets of the allocations, which at its maximum could be summed up to equal the Effective Total Supply.   Pi’s mining rewards are distributed based on an issuance formula that follows a declining exponential model defined in the Pi whitepaper. Users can increase the amount of mining rewards they receive based on their individual contributions to the network, like Security Circles, using utility-based Pi apps, running Nodes, etc. For each month, the amount of Pi to be distributed as mobile balance is capped and determined by the model, regardless of how many people or how many types of mining rewards there are during the month. The capping is achieved by the design of a system-wide base mining rate, and each type of mining rewards to each individual are just a multiplier of this base mining rate. As the monthly supplies always diminish, the base mining rate generally decreases over time.   Fewer Pi may also be issued because the real Pi issuance on the blockchain depends on Pioneers passing KYC and completing all steps required for migration to the Mainnet. Despite all efforts to facilitate and remind Pioneers to complete those required steps, there are always dropoffs along the way, resulting in less than all outstanding mobile balances to be issued on the blockchain. Because of this mechanism, the community issued amount (Migrated Mining Rewards) on the blockchain will likely be closer and closer to a line lower than the 65 billion. This is thus the reason for the variable Effective Total Supply which incorporates this effect. Effective Total Supply results from all Migrated Mining Rewards divided by 65%, as opposed to the Maximum Supply of 100 billion. ConocoPhillips (COP) Chief Executive Ryan Lance reportedly told employees&nbsp;on Thursday that the decision to lay off as much as 25% of the workforce stemmed in part from the company losing competitiveness as it focused on acquiring smaller rivals.<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/COP">ConocoPhillips’ stock</a> fell more than 3.5% in Friday afternoon trading, extending its weekly decline to about 6.7% on the layoff&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/conoco-phillips-to-lay-off-up-to-25-precent-of-its-workforce/chwcTx7Rdob">announcement</a>. However, retail sentiment on Stocktwits around the oil and gas producer moved higher within the ‘bullish’ zone over the past week."The cost and the whole competitiveness of the company probably took a backseat to those initiatives and those things we were doing for very real reasons, important reasons for the company," Lance said in a recording of the town hall,&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.reuters.com/business/world-at-work/i-fault-myself-not-paying-more-attention-conoco-ceo-tells-employees-facing-deep-2025-09-05/">cited</a> by Reuters. The report stated that the town hall meeting took place a day after the company announced the layoffs, which are part of a broader restructuring aimed at reducing costs.&nbsp;"I fault myself for not paying attention and keeping the other things sort of centered and important," added Lance. "We probably backslid a little bit in the cost effort... maybe we should have been smarter about how we did it."&nbsp;Last year, the company bought Marathon Oil for $22.5 billion. In 2021, ConocoPhillips acquired Concho Resources for $9.7 billion and bought Permian assets from oil major Shell (SHEL) for $9.5 billion.&nbsp;The energy industry has undergone the largest consolidation in a generation over the past two years, according&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.ey.com/en_us/newsroom/2025/08/consolidation-reshapes-the-us-oil-and-gas-industry">to</a> EY. Other oil companies have also been laying off employees to save costs. Exxon Mobil (XOM) is reportedly looking to sell its European chemical plants as the sector is grappling with higher U.S. tariffs and intense competition from producers in China.According to a report by the Financial Times, Exxon has held early-stage discussions with advisers in recent weeks on possible sales, which could fetch up to $1 billion.The supermajor is specifically weighing the sale of its plants in the UK and Belgium, the report stated. The company owns an ethylene plant in the Scottish town of Fife, alongside multiple production sites in Belgium. The company had also discussed just shutting them down.However, the report mentioned that there was no guarantee a deal would materialize and Exxon could choose to retain the facilities. The group noted that the decision was taken due to a steady “global economic outlook and current healthy market fundamentals.”While summer demand has remained strong in the Western Hemisphere, analysts predict that oil supply will outpace demand by year-end. Both future contracts had fallen by over $2 on Friday, after the soft U.S. jobs data had signaled raised concerns over oil consumption in the world’s largest economy.According to a Reuters <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/oil-slips-opec-proceeds-with-september-output-hike-2025-08-03/">report</a>, Goldman Sachs analysts noted that the actual supply boost from the eight OPEC+ countries stands at about 1.7 million bpd, or about two-thirds of announced capacity, as other group members have looked to cut capacity to compensate for overproducing earlier."While OPEC+ policy remains flexible and the geopolitical outlook uncertain, we assume that OPEC+ keeps required production unchanged after September," the analysts reportedly said in the note before adding that the rise in non-OPEC production will likely not leave much scope for extra OPEC+ barrels.However, potential penalties on the buyers of Russian crude could still crimp supplies and provide a boost to oil prices. On Stocktwits, retail sentiment moved higher within the ‘bullish’ zone.According to a&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.wsj.com/world/americas/trump-administration-greenlights-chevron-to-resume-pumping-oil-in-venezuela-0353262b">report</a> by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), the agreement’s terms remain unclear. Baker Hughes stock gained 1.6% in premarket trading on Wednesday after the oilfield technology firm’s second-quarter profit topped Wall Street estimates amid strong data center-related orders.The company reported adjusted earnings of $0.63 per share for the three months ended June 30, while analysts expected it to post $0.55 per share in earnings, according to Fiscal.ai data. Its revenue of $6.9 billion also topped estimates, but came in lower than a year earlier.Similar to its rivals, SLB and Halliburton, <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/BKR">Baker Hughes</a> projected a decline in oilfield activity amid concerns about oil demand. The firm expects upstream spending in North America to be down low-double digit percentage points and international to decline by high-single digit percentage points.However, the company is banking on growing power demand to mitigate the impact of a weak outlook for its core oilfield services segment. According to a <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.deloitte.com/us/en/insights/industry/power-and-utilities/data-center-infrastructure-artificial-intelligence.html">report</a> by Deloitte, power demand from AI data centers in the United States is expected to grow more than thirtyfold, reaching 123 gigawatts, up from 4 gigawatts in 2024.The company said that orders at its Industrial &amp; Energy Technology reached $3.5 billion in the second quarter, resulting in another record backlog for the segment. About $500 million of the new orders were related to data center projects. The company raised the full-year revenue and earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) forecast for the IET segment.Retail sentiment on Stocktwits was in the ‘bullish’ territory at the time of writing, while retail chatter was ‘high.’The company also said it expects to "meet or exceed" its three-year goal to confirm $1.5 billion of orders in data center equipment ahead of prior expectations.
